HPCSA CPD points: how to check them online
An HPCSA CPD points check online takes a few minutes once you know where to look. The HPCSA has had an online self-service portal since October 2020, and it is where your CPD status is recorded.
This guide covers how to log in, what the status means, how to upload evidence, and what to do when the portal shows fewer points than you have earned.

Where your CPD points are kept
Your CPD record sits in the HPCSA’s online self-service portal, reached from the HPCSA website at hpcsa.co.za. The same portal handles your annual fees and your personal details.
In its notice on the CPD programme, the HPCSA says it is “recommended that practitioners regularly visit the HPCSA’s online portal to view their CPD status”. Practitioners are expected to upload evidence on a continuous basis and not to wait for a request.
How to check CPD points with the HPCSA, step by step
- 1Go to hpcsa.co.za and open the online self-service portal.
- 2Log in with your portal username and password. If you have never used the portal, you need to register an account on it first.
- 3Open the CPD section of your profile.
- 4Read your CPD status. It shows whether you are compliant and the activities recorded against your name.
- 5Check the list of activities against your own record. Look for anything missing.
- 6If you are compliant, download your compliance letter and save it.
The portal’s layout and menu names change from time to time. If a step looks different, the CPD section is still found under your practitioner profile.
HPCSA CPD portal login problems
Login trouble is the most common obstacle, which is why “HPCSA CPD portal login” is searched so often. The usual causes:
- You never registered on the portal. Being registered with the HPCSA does not create a portal account. Register first.
- The email address on file is old. Password resets go to the address the HPCSA holds. If it has changed, your details need updating before a reset will reach you.
- Your registration number is entered wrongly. Include the letter prefix for your category.
- The portal is busy. It slows down before deadlines. Try early in the morning.
If you still can’t get in, contact the HPCSA through the details on its website and keep a record of when you tried.
What your status means
The HPCSA’s June 2025 notice to practitioners set out the standard: compliance requires 30 points, 25 clinical and 5 ethical, within a 12-month cycle, and points are valid for 12 months from the date of the activity.
Because points expire, your status can change without you doing anything. A practitioner who was compliant in March can be short in June if a batch of activities has passed its 12 months. This is why checking once a year isn’t enough.
Our guide to the HPCSA CPD deadline and the points you need explains the requirement in more detail.
When points are missing
If the portal shows fewer points than you have earned, the activity probably hasn’t been uploaded or validated yet.
- Check whether the provider submitted attendance on your behalf. Many accredited providers do, but not all.
- If not, upload the certificate yourself in the CPD section.
- Make sure the certificate shows the activity’s accreditation number, the date, and the number and type of points.
- Allow time for validation. The HPCSA has said it validates within 30 days of upload.
- Keep your own copy of every certificate.
Keep your own record
The portal shows what the HPCSA has recorded. It doesn’t warn you three months before points expire, and it won’t tell you what you still need to book.
Keep a simple record of your own: the activity, the date, the points, whether they were ethics points, and where the certificate is saved. The free tracker below does this in a spreadsheet.
If you would like the reminders handled for you, Wholistic’s CPD tracker names the next points to lapse and shows your CPD status on your practice dashboard, next to the other in-app reminders.
Common questions
Can I check my HPCSA CPD points online without logging in?
No. Your CPD status is part of your practitioner profile, so you need to log in to the HPCSA self-service portal to see it.
How long do uploaded points take to appear?
The HPCSA has said it validates CPD evidence within 30 days of upload. Check again after that, and follow up if the activity still isn’t showing.
Where do I get proof that I am compliant?
A compliance letter can be downloaded from the CPD section of the self-service portal once your status shows as compliant.
CPD requirements are summarised from HPCSA notices available in October 2026 and can change. Confirm the current rules for your registration category with the HPCSA.
